I've always thought using a gasket with a smaller diameter then the bore would give way for a hotspot region for detonation, by leaving a small but marginal area of gasket within the combustion chamber since your using a smaller diameter gasket bore.

Might be the first thing that me and Don have ever agreed on. (jk) 
But I agree with DonF opinion on this topic....As far as using an OEM gasket on an 81.5mm bore, as long as the OEM is a widerbore diameter as mention in the thread above (~81.75) go for it
