Default Rear main seal

Okay, so I'm doing a transmission, clutch, flywheel, pressure plate installation. To my surprise the problem with the slipping clutch was because oil was getting on the clutch/flywheel. There was oil everywhere inside the housing.

I just put the motor in and I have my old motor sitting. The tranny, clutch, flywheel, pp is already taken off of my old motor and the rear main seal looks good=].

Can I Just take out the all 6 bolts on both motors and replace the whole thing? or does it look like I'm going to need to buy a new one, because right now I am low on cash and my car needs to get running.

ek hatch motor in my ek, forgot what motor but it's the one with the intake that comes out carburetor style, and the donor is a y8. Should be no difference.

To sum it up, current motor = bad rear main seal. Donor motor= good rear main seal. Swapping it straight over is safe right? Oil pan does or does not need to come off?

I remember there being a faq on this but I cannot find it.

Oh yeah, Side question...GSR injector seals, are they the same as the b16? I have to change mines=]. and would too much fuel pressure cause my injector seals to go bad? from either the engine side or the rail side.

Bump before I sleep, it's making it's way down the list pretty quick.

I wouldn't reuse it.

Besides, Majestic has one for $11 (for a D16Z6). Couldn't be too much more at the Stealership for yours.

AutoZone has it for that price as well. I myself would not fully trust a Felpro gasket after seeing what the oil pan gasket looks like, but it's an option at least.

yeah, if it's a rubber seal, $11 is cheap insurance. I wouldn't reuse a rubber gasket on something that hard to get to.

If you're gonna go through the hassle of removing the transmission, why not just get a new RM seal? It's more time consuming to replace the seal compared to an alternator belt or valve cover gasket.

right, and think of the miles already on the "good used one" you have. that much life is already used up before it begins to leak too.

it's possible and would probably work, but it's best to get a new one.

(oh, don't forget to grease the ID groove. multipurpose bearing grease works fine..)

you'll completely fubar the seal getting it out of the donor motor anyway lol

new seal & install

EDIT:
yes, you are supposed to drop the pan to change them. but... there are ways around it
