Default Milling head

Hi, I am wondering if I mill .020" off of my GSR head if I will run into any piston to valve clearance issues. The head will be going onto a stock compression B18C1. Also will I need adjustable cam gears to get the cam timing back to the factory location?

It's definitely worth claying the pistons to ensure theirs no P2V contact for peace of mind.

what cams? shaving the head or block will retard timing slightly.

You won't have any p2v issues and with only .020" off the head, it will only retard your cam timing by 1/2 a cam degree or 1 crank degree. You can get by without adjustable cam gears if you want, if you're picky and want to spend the money, it's up to you.

If you have oem gsr pistons you can mill the head .020 and be fine with stock cams but the oem gsr piston has a much shallower valve pocket than say a type-r or b16a piston so you won't be able to run aftermarket cams without having problems. Even if you don't mill most aftermarket cams will cause v2p contact. If your pulling the head its not much more work to throw some itr piston on your rods and put it back together and be good to go with all the aftermarket cam choices. Amen

Not a problem, it is adjustable via the tensioner. Although I do not know how far you can go, I have gone .040 in stock applications including a GSR W crower 403's. Was not the best combination, there was no contact in my application.
