ls/vtec and b16b pistons????
ok i am planing on doing this the "right way" if you will i have a 95 ls block i am getting the crank balanced, and will hone the block, and have purchesed arp rod bolts and head studs, i will be useing a 99 itr head with stock cams i already have an earls oil line, and fittings and the head is tapped, i have a 22t water pump and itr oil pump, i will get a gsr timming belt, i want to use jdm b16b pistons on the ls rods and crank i found a complete kit with all new gaskets, bearings, pistons, rings wrist pins etc.. for around $300 it will put my cr around 12:1 wich is what im going for my question is has anyone perfomed this setup and if so any tips, and do you guys think i should upgrade to diffirent springs and retainers while i have the head apart i need guidence lol, open to all comments
thanks man ive been looking for that one i found it ages ago and have been trying to find it since it pretty much told me i wont be able to use b16b pistons with my setup not enough clearance, how accurate is that calculator
the website states its basically a general estimate accuracy.
somebody correct me if im wrong but maybe if you take the pistons to a machine shop and gotem "fly cut" (better piston to valve clearence) you might be able to run them.
GL!

Well first off expect to be referred to another piston choice, even with the pr3 head.
In this case its the compression that is the issue, not clearance.
My first lsvtec was what you just described. 81mm pct with pr3 head and ctr cams w/ some omni springs/retainers.
It ran great...but.....on vp.....and on the weekends.
At that time I was under the impression I needed that piston to help get the power I was looking for, which was not the case.
A p30, p73 00 or pr3 would all be good choices.
Instead of just honing the block, I would buy an 81.25 or 81.5 piston set and have the block bored and honed to the new piston set.
Start with a good block that wont have to come apart for a while.
Not sure how long it will be before you switch out the cams to something else, but the springs and retainers can be
easily changed with the motor in the car.
No reason it couldnt be done later on.
Good luck

or i could just go to the p30's jdm b16a's and run 12.2 and know that ill still have around .013 left for piston to deck height vs -.015 lol that and the jdm itrs wont give me much more only like .06 more cr acording to their calculator im still gonna clay the block but i would have been pissed if i would have put in the b16b psitons and they would have been to damn tall i could see me now
A lot of people dont realize the danger when using these pistons with unknown amounts cut from used heads/blocks and
topped of with a 1 layer .010 h/g. Let alone the p72 gsr head wit da quench pads

what so you were running that setup it says thats around 13.93 cr thats nuts i beat it hauled *** lol, so if i go to the p30's you think ill be in the green ive had this itr head and lines for almost two years sitting in my closet staring at me and im ready for vtec and start racing again
the block is uncut and the head is also uncut both are original shape my motor burns no oil, no ticks ive losened up a rocker arm now and again from high revvs but other than that its a strong block i feel its probly my best yet, im going to replace all bearings and gaskets as i stated i know it will cost me but i want reliability and great power, i dont care if i have to buy a case of octane booster lol

ditch the octaine boost.
well im starting to lean more twoards the p30's now cause i would really like to be able t ojust fill up at the pump use some good ole 93 octane and beable to ride and if i feel ballsy before a track event have the gusto to beable to run c12 you know i want versatility but still haul *** my old camaro i had only ran right on c12 and it was hell i dont want that again but idk i guess im just lost looking for some advice lol thanks to all oyu guys who helped with what oyu had still taking advice
The dome's are closer to 6.8cc; A topic covered many times but probably lost in the transition.
...but compression is still too high for pump gas, and again, clearances...
P30's, or my recommendation, JDM type-r's are your best bet.
