Why is 4qts too much oil in a B18B?
Okay, I got a oil change in my DA from a local shop and when I checked it later I thought they put too much oil in it. It was about a half inch over the top line on the dipstick. So I loosened the drain plug, let a little out and then tightened it back up.
So I do a oil change myself yesterday and added 4qts. and it was too full again. This time not as much but still about 1/4" over the top dot on the dipstick.
So my question is, why is 4 qts too much oil in my engine? I bought 4 individal quart bottles so I'm sure that is how much I put in. The motor is not stock but it is a 97' B18B so not too different from the stock B18A. So what could be the problem? Could my dipstick be messed up and not reading correctly? Or is there something else that could be causing this?

Not sure what the problem is, all I can think of is your putting in 4 imperial quarts not 4 US quarts, in imp. qt it would be 3.3 (RS/LS) and 3.5 (GSR).
Also, are you sure it is the correct dip stick for that engine? 94

on page 3-6 of teh factory service manual
b18b, 4us qts with filter change.
b18c is 4.2 qts with filter change.
i looked up the b20s also, 4us qts
my guess is wrong dipstick...happens a lot in garages that built a lot motors
