Default oil problems

I just built a ls vtec and I used hond piston rings and i gapped them to spec
Top compression ring to .009
second compression ring to .015
both oil rings to .009

and i put on 900 miles now i got it tuned at 150 miles and no oil leaks out of the motor at all fixed all that but it is still using oil about 250 miles to a quart...Now when I got it tuned by JK tuning the tuner told me that sense i am running buddy club spec 3s that the cam is pushing the valve seal pass its sealing area and causing me to use oil. That is good point because when ever the vtec hits that is when the smoke gets the worst.

Now i got all new valve seals in before i put it on the block the guy used a felpro seal. Is there a better valve seal out on the market that has more sealing area i guess...also i am getting no blow by out of the beather in the valve cover. And i was told that would be a sign of the rings being bad...

I just what to know what you think Honda tech anything thoughts would be sweet!

I would pull your valvecover off and inspect the valveseals. I would also drop your oil pan to inspect your pickup for these possible valveseal pieces(seen it happen).

Is this 250 miles of beating on it? Or 250 miles of granny driving?
Does the oil seem to get dirty rather quickly?

okay i will look at the valve seals today and the 250 miles was pretty hard i ran 6, 1/4 mile runs with shifting at 8,600 rpm i have ARP rod bolts

well i took the valve cover off and looked at the oil and it looks normal...I adjusted the valves again to 0.008 on the intake and 0.009 on the exhaust and did a compression test and got 250 PSI on all four. I am running USDM type R's. I think that is healthy number...and i kept on getting this drip of oil on the font left on the head gasket and i looked harder and my dizzy was leaking oil and i just put a new O-ring in it so I got my hondabond out and put some on the O-ring and no more leak! i was worrying it was the head gasket...

now i have had the oil pan off of this motor before in about 250 miles of 1st start and i looked at the oil pick up and it looked clean...

Well a quart in about 250 miles (about a tank right?) is not that bad. Especially if your romping on it alot. Plus being its a fresh engine, the rings may have a little bit of break in left until theyre fully seated.
Id also look into a better crank ventilation system if you havent already. This can also help in oil consumption...

So you thinking if i get rid of the PCV valve and go with a beather and catch can set up that it would help with the oil useage...and i did not know it took crome rings that long to seated thanks for the insite

I once had a 2L setup with a stock pcv system that would always leak oil around the pan gasket. New gasket-leak. New honda gasket-leak. New felpro gasket-leak. Finally I added an external catch can for the crankcase system and no more leaks!
I also noticed oil consumption seemed to be reduced also. Made sense after i though about it for a minute!
Also, I do believe Chrome rings are harder than your standard ductile iron rings and therefore do take longer to break in. I also think there is a different honing procedure for chrome rings too...Id ask around though just to verify..
Good luck

well it seems like the basic catch cans have you take out the top PCV valve hose and connect one hose to the top of the intake manifold to the catch can and from there back to the hose that goes to breather box on the block? or do you have one that you like?

Ive heard this one works pretty well...
