1989 civic dx cannot start
Hi all,
My first post here.
Posting about my son's 1989 civic dx. It has a PGM-FI (1.5L, I believe).
It rotates over, but doesn't start. Doesn't even sound like it even wants to start. Just cranks over really easily.
The things we have done so far:
1- replaced fuel pump, fuel filter. (Ipulled one plug outand cranked over, does smell of gas when I do that.)
2- replaced coil, wires, cap, rotor, plugs (I tested plugs, there is spark getting to the plugs.)
3- checked the timing belt and adjusted the valve as per haynes manual.
4- Peeled the carpet back and removed the computer cover. The computer LED does flash once when it starts cranking over, and once when I stop cranking.
5- checked all fuses under dash and under hood, all good.
I am stumped as to what to check/fix next. It has been a week of trying to get this thing running.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys,
I did a little research (google is such a beautiful thing) and found where it is located. I won't have a chance to change it until Monday.
post back then.
Hopefully that is my problem.

sorry, i could have atleast tried.
all of my main problems with the main relay have been intermittent.. do you know how to solder at all? it is located above the hood release and is a MAJOR pain in the butt to get out.. if you do know how to solder, it is a relatively easy fix. i've had 3 go bad in 3 different cars. they are all working fine now..

UPDATE:
My son went to the local pick-a-part, picked up 7 of them off different cars.
Total cost for all: $15
Got back to the garage and put one in, and the civic fired right up.
Thanks for all your help, guys.

Hi Guys, this is another update.
Well, thinking that it was the Main relay (by it starting, gave us a false sense of hope), we tried others, then ended up buying a new one, but still it wouldn't start.
Finally gave yesterday, and got it towed to the Honda dealership, asked them to hook up to their tester. They told that it is a bad ECU.
Oh well...........................
Hopefully the local pick a part has them laying around.
wish us luck, lolol

I'll get back you in the morning, depending on our luck tonight at pick a part. PM me anyways, with your asking price, might as well get the ball rolling.
BTW, can any ECU work for that civic? My son's a 89civic dx with automatic with no options. Do I have to get one from the same model?
Thanks
