Default fuel killswitch

i installed a fuel killswitch yesterday. it was running then this morning while driving, my car just died. i turned the switch on off then it started again. is it possible that the vibration just shook the switch? if i put it back as it was not soldering it, will it affect the fuel pump like it did today?

Try disconnecting the switch and redo the original wiring to see if it works under a stock set up, rather than the switch interfering with the circuit. that will tell you if your pump or switch went TU for some reason. Just check your connections and make sure they are solid.

+1

also..some of those switches are plain junk. is it a cheap (2 dollar part) plastic switch? might want to get a better switch if this is the case.

i got a better switch from radioshack. does the amp load of the switch matter?

The current rating of the switch does matter, so does the wire gauge and length. Get a real switch, not from "radio crap". Solder the connections whenever possible.

I installed my switch using 18 gauge wire and a switch I got from Radioshack, which I think was a 20 or 25 amp switch, I can't quite remember. It works fine. OH YES, another important question, how far away from the pump did you mount your switch. I think if its furtehr then 4-5 ft, you're going to have to use a relay.

My kill switch is inline with a low current signal from the ECU before the full pump relay "main relay". Switching a high current load with a switch is stupid.

I hate it when people post install guides for Fuel Pump kill switches..sure let the Thieves roam and find out where people put them in there Civics/Del Sols, etc.

you turn it off, walk away, come back and hit the switch, let the pump fully prime, then start? i made my switch turn off the ground that runs close to the drivers seat.

what i do is i switch it to ACC and wouldn't hear the fuel pump whirl so i go and switch the switch off and on again then it'll start. it's not something serious, is it?

is switching the ground better than the yellow/green wire that's posted all over the internet?

It's not stupid if you have the right switch for the job.

i do a ground, just for the fact i can hide the switch better. its really up to you but no ground = no fuel pump start.

My only expert input: use a switch that is rated for the min/max amperage AND voltage that will be traveling through whatever wire you interrupt. If you don't know, use a meter.
