B16a Vtec problem in my crx
I purchased a 1989 Si Crx, and it had a JDM B16A, Vtec works in every gear except for 1st. has anyone ever had this problem? and if so how do I fix it, lol.
Any input appreciated!

Do you have VTEC by gear? lol Just kidding.
All joking aside this just doesnt make sense unless somehow you car comes up to operating temp between your shifts from 1st to 2nd..Any codes by chance? Definatly a strange issue.

there is a write up where you can hook up a led as a dummy light in cabin that activates when vtec engages, this way you can be sure you indeed do not have vtec in your first gear, what trans are you using? maybe its an ls trans, feels long?

Well if it works when you burn out or punch it on a turn, it works going in a straight line. Is it because you "hear vtec kick in"? Initially VTEC should be a smooth transition between the low cam and the high cam.
the above fella that mentioned operation temp is semi correct. start your car and let it warm up... open the hood and wait until the car goes into open loop. ( then the fans kick on ) and you know the car is warm.. get in and nail on it a little. your v-tec is controlled by oil pressure. not gear lol. if you have a check engine light on i would look at the lil red light on the ecu. count flashes and look up codes... you may have an issue. BUT if its working in 2,3,4,5th well then my guess is its operational.
pr3 should have you popping around 3800. pw0 i know is higher.
lastly look at your oil level.. no oil no fully operational v-tec.
good luck and may the force be with you.

ED9: I was referring to if you are using your ears to tell if your VTEC is working. As you know some VTEC's kick harder than others, but in reality VTEC should be a smooth transition between low cam and high cam fuel tables as I stated before. It shouldn't be a noticeable kick in the butt dyno.
well I just replaced the Speed Cable (yes Brand new from Honda lol) and I still didnt work, then I took my ECU into Cortney to Neptune it, and now IT WORKS! lol this car is weird lol
