Default best swap for 96 hx coupe on a budget

i just got a 96 HX coupe.
im thinking about building the engine or swapping one in the future.
i want to know what i should swap into it on a budge.
i was thinking ls-vtec but would it just be better to swap in the ex motor and build that?

keep your y5. bigger cam, roller rockers... its a better platform. talk to bisimoto about a cam for it and possibly a slight bump in compression either with milling or a piston swap to something like PG6's

Honestly, I'd just sell that HX to somebody like me that will respect Vtec-E and keep it stock, and buy yourself an EX to build up.

But thats just me.

if you convert to OBD1 you loose the VTEC-E but rather have a huge cam and VTEC with roller rockers. whats not to love there

Like I said, if you want performance the EX is a better base in general. The HX are rare and a very, very unique car. I'd keep that beast stock and reap the mileage benefits

the EX is not a better base per say. its the same head and intake manifold. just a different(bigger) cam and roller rockers in the HX. Pistons are better in the HX too, sit closer to zero deck. You can still get amazing mileage with an HX converted to OBD1 as long as the tune is good. Joseph David is using the y5 head on an A6 bottom end with PDN pistons and LS rods and is making 140hp on 87 octane.

^The ex has a different head, as it's not a roller head, and the intake manifold doesn't have EGR like the y5 intake does.

An HX converted to obd1 sucks *****. I have an "ex swapped" hx, which was unbeknownst to me before I bought it, and I get about 31-34mpg solid city driving. Which sucks since I lost about 8-10mpg in the city only to gain like 12hp. Lame

no, it IS the same head, same casting. P2J. A roller rocker setup is better than the standard VTEC head. What does an F20C use? Roller rockers. The intakes are the same except for like you said an its easy to remove/block the EGR. Take a look at joseh david again, higher compression but still 87 octane and 140hp with a stock cam, need i say more. You really shoud educate your self more on the y5 motor before just spouting things off about it. An OBD1 HX is a GREAT motor, please, do tell me why it sucks?

Your dumb as **** your saying things I already said.

The HX uses a roller rocker setup. I've said this. A roller rocker setup is ALWAYS better. Common knowledge. I already stated all these facts.

Educate myself on the y5 motor??? I damn near know this thing inside out with all the **** I've been thru with it dumbass.

AND LIKE I'VE ALREADY SAID... an obd1 HX sucks ***** because I'M GETTING 10-20MPG LESS THAN IT SHOULD BE STOCK.

Learn to read and educate YOURSELF before sounding like an ignorant ****.

you said it was a different head, i told you it wasnt, becuase its not, i didnt re-state your sayings. Your tune/basemap obviously blows if your getting that shitty of mileage, need to find a new tuner.

No it's because it's not using vtec-e anymore and it's a normal 1.6vtec motor.

They are the same bare-head, but hx's use roller rockers and no other honda did
