Throwout Bearing
Alright guys i need advice. I have a 95 integra gsr. about a month ago i dropped my tranny and put in a stock clutch... now everytime i step on clutch i hear a scrathin noise... most likely its because i didnt change my throwout bearing...can i drive the car like that with the bad throwout bearing or should i change it asap....i want to know because i need to drive the car already but i dnt want to mess it up my tranny.....so can i drive the car??
A bad throwout bearing (TOB) is more an annoyance than anything. It only contacts the shift fork and the fingers on the clutch. Your bad TOB doesn't come into any contact with the internal workings of the transmission; therefore, a bad TOB can't actually cause any problems with the tranny. It can however be very annoying when worn. The worst i could see it doing is scratching the shift fork and PP fingers up....I would change it eventually, but it isn't going to hurt anything for a long time...
Do a little research on the TOB and see what it is and does. That may give you a little more peace of mind that you're not ruining anything. Basically all it is, is a 2-piece cylinder with a set of ball bearings in between the two halves. This allows one section to be stationary with the clutch fork and the other side to rotate with the pressure plate. Simple piece, but gives a grown man the shivvers when its bad...
