Default ARP HeadStuds Question....

Turboing my b16a2.. Motor is compleatly stock. Noticed some threads on how much boost to run on a stock motor. Seen that i could probaly and would want to get around 300-315 whp... Now the thing is would I have to change the stock headstuds or will i be ok, car is not an everyday drivin and I dont **** on it every time if comes out.....

I didn't change mine on a 300ish whp B18C, and after 3 months of driving (approx. 2500-3000 miles) of somewhat hard driving the stock head started to lift during long boost pulls. Needless to say the car is having the headgasket changed and ARP headstuds put it right now.

You're very limited to the amount of power you can put through the car with the stock head bolts. Honestly, it's very easy to install head studs and they don't require much effort to install and they're pretty cheap.

Yea I know that its not that hard to install them, but I herd that some people have done it without taking the head off.. I dont have that much milage on the motor anyway, but i might wait untill I have some money saved up, or really have to replace it. I still have a factory seal on the motor... Hopefully it will hold for a little while the car is not drivin daily...

dont cheap out. Its 50-60 for a Headgasket. Either way, if you blow it later since you didnt replace it. You will simply have to do it all over again with even more headache.

I'll play the devil's advocate. Wait until you actually blow your head gasket or your head starts lifting before replacing gasket and putting in studs. No need to fix something that isn't broken yet. As long as you have a good tune first because nothing will change when you replace gasket and install the studs.

I was loking at doing the same thing but I bought a second B16a, and decided to build that instead.

I think I am going to hold off untill I notice that the head is starting to lift or keep checking my compression. I think the same way why fix something that does not need to be fixed yet... What about that catch can or the banjo valve cover breather will taht work releasing some pressure off the head...

You run the risk of warping the head or deck if you overboost on the motor with the stock bolts. I myself would rather not risk it.

no point in risking it...... my friend didnt do his even though he bought them and now it doesnt have the time or the "want" to put them in.....i didnt even second guess myself when i knew i was gonna start boostin.... not like they are much money anyways
