Default How strong are the bottom ends?

I'm looking for numbers, not statements of "not very strong." I want to know how strong is the bottom end in a b18a/b and a b18c1? How much hp and tq can these bottom ends take if I just work the heads?

well every engine is different, and its ALL in the tune. b18a1/b1's i've seen in the 250-300 range and appear to be pretty stable, gsr's from what i've seen seem to handle a little bit more. check out the almost 800 page turbo ls thread, and get an idea for yourself what you think would be reliable...

If you're asking from an ALL MOTOR aspect.....stock bottom ends are as strong as you'll ever need them to be (power-wise).

Considering people only get ~230 WHP out of a B20VTEC...and that's the biggest you can get for an all motor stock bottom end....boosted guys are making 300+ on stock bottom ends. The "strength" of the bottom end is NOT going to be a limitation.

If that doesn't answer your question.....IDK how to answer it. If it didn't, you're in the wrong forum.

i have a better question. with a fully built head, how high of a rev can stock block handle? i'm thinking the rod bolts would go out first.

Probably is the 1st weak link.

Aftermarket Rods use ARP fasteners to add security.

I really don't know where the threshold is on different bolts.

Just realize that RPM = Ruins People's Motors

C Rock I think you did a pretty good job at answering the question, though I'm referring to it being boosted, I should've stated that from the beginning so my thread wouldn't be moved to the All-Motor forum but whatever.

See I'm rebuilding my cousin's sedan for him and I'm trying to keep the price of everything as low as possible while still making sure I get quality parts where I really need them. I wanted the numbers as a reference point so I know where I don't want to get too close to power wise. I do plan on reconditioning the entire block and utilizing ARP Head & Rod bolts. I plan on having the head ported and polished with a complete valvetrain upgrade. Anyway thank you very much everyone for your input.
