Default Short shifter help...normal or not normal...that is the question

I recently bought a short shifter from Skunk2. When the transmission gets warm/hot if I go into neutral I feel gears touching (may be synchros, don't know since I can't see in there ). Is this a normal thing with Skunk2? Can I fix this problem? It seems that if I were to full the shifter towards the ceiling of the car, the vibration (I would say grindage) stops, and is smooth again. If I smash the shifter towards the floor, then it wants to grind harder. It feels really sloppy. This all happens only when warm though . When the car is cold it shift wonderful...help me understand this better...

LOL Alright, please don't make me out to be a ghey-ball and bump my own thread...are you suggesting that I post in another forum. Give me a clue so I can we-todd this thing the right way (even if it means throwing the stock shifter back in; which I'm leaning on doing at the moment).

hahaha

I can feel the gears on my tranny with the stock shifter.

...aside from making sure your shift linkage isn't bent, and your fluid is fresh...don't know what to say.

I think the grindage you think you are feeling is just the shifter linkage vibrating on the exhaust heat shield below it. The same thing happens to me with my C's DPS.

linkage shouldn't be bent...dang that sounds like a really bad thing?! Just wasn't sure what to expect. Also, I didn't think that my shifter was [I][that/I] close to the heat shield, although that kinda makes sense. I'll check it tomorrow...thanks for the tips...

this really doesn't relate to your question, but did you use the bushings that came with it, or get some other ones? i've thought about getting this skunk2 shifter, but have wondered if I should get better bushings for it.. thanks!

i have the same shifter on my itr, but never encountered this grinding. What i did notice however was that the shifter needed to be broken in. It was really stiff the first time I used it. Hard to push into gates and hard to pull out, but after a while it loosened up. Don't know if this helps. By the way, is the short shifter supposed to be stiff in the beginning or is this abnormal too??? just a thought.

It might have been too stiff because you probably overtightened the bolt which runs through the linkage and through the shifter. I overtightened it once myself and it was hard to shift, but then I loosed the bolt up and it was alot easier.

As for the shifter grinding, I don't think that's your problem. I think that the shifter is touching the exhaust underneath making it vibrate and make noise. Since the shifter is a short shifter it sits a little lower underneath the car. My friend had the same problem, his shifter was rubbing on the exhaust underneath. Hope this helps you guys.

Yeah, I'm begining to think your right. I'll check it out tonight, and see whats going on.

As for the tightness, I agree with PYITR821...it was the bolt. You just tightened it a little too much in the begining... I did the same thing, and losened it a bit...works good now.

It's been a while since i've had my skunk2 shifter, as i recall there were spacers that came with it, i believe. I might be wrong, like i said its been a while.
