my friend was driving my 98 ek ex on the freeway "he says"....

iv checked all the belts- all there

iv checked all the fuses- all good

and all the underhood relays look damn near brand new

everything works- roof, locks, windows, lights, gauges, sig jack, eveything

but it won't turn over... i turn the key, i get one click and then nothing....

i know its a power issue... but what could have "fallen off" to cause the car to just "die" and not even turn over

Aside from the clinking sound, no crank just clicking means the starter is bad/frozen/locked/jammed. Might be able to hit it a couple times or just replace it.

 

i say check your grounds because i dont know why something would have stopped the car from running while he was driving. yet another reason not to loan your car to anyone.

 

You're friend is probably lying. Without thinking about the noise and something falling of, it sounds just like a bad starter. Have someone crank it while tapping the starter. See what happens.

 

Is there battery voltage at the large Blk wire connected to the starter?

 

Sorry for your loss, but your description just made my day.

I would go with ground, there are very few things that will stop a motor from running once it gets going.

Help Desk check list by numbers:

Is there gas in the car
Is the battery charged
Is there fuel getting to the cylinders
Is there air getting to the cylinders
Is the starter turning over if there is a charge to the battery
Is there something obstructing the flywheel from turning from the starter

from there it gets more complicated

 

i took the starter out this morning... and had it tested at kragen...

stater is good

now im baffled......

 

Timing belt?

 

Timing belt I bet, especially if he was driving, made a sound, then wouldn't start again. I'm sure the clink sound were the pistons giving the valves the finger.

might have jumped time. Check the timing.

 

yo, does your fuel pump still activate when you turn your key (II)....

 

It would still crank and most likely start. The starter was engaging, but couldnt turn the motor over.

 

Yeah but if it jumped time while he was driving due to the timing belt stretching and what-not then its possible that its locked up dogg. Check timing marks.

I still think it jumped time and locked up. I hope not for your sake but thats what Id bet on.

 

That just doesn't happen. If it jumped time it would run like ****. It won't lock up. Think!

edit: I take that back. If it SEVERELY jumps time it could. But rare. It more than likely broke.

 

i am begining to think a rod broke... he said he heard a clink clink clink... and for it not to turn over out of the blue it kind of adds up.....

i haven't push started it yet though... ish is heavy

 

Ok heeeeelp.... I checked out the motor..... Rods 3 & 4 are sticking out of the block FROM BOTH SIDES... broken shards everywhere.....

I just picked up a new block and i dropped the motor out already... I started all this at 6am of course

will i have the tranny off... But i need to know the torque pressure for the clutch and plat and stufff pppllleeeeaaassseee... This is the only part i don't know and its 2:30 and i have untill 6 to get the motor in the car
