Well i bought this motor from the junkyard and was wonder if the vin number is on the head to the left side I see a bunch of letter and numbers but i dont know.

no I believe vin numbers on motors, if anywhere, is only on the block. On obd2 B series it also appears on the transmission.

 

i wonder what string of numbers this is then ill have to take a pic of it.

is it number within a few circles, with lines in the middle? on the exhaust side, it tells you what head it is and the year and some other stuff that IDK.

 

I do not think the VIN number is on engines pre-1996 or so. I know it is not on my 93 and 91 engines, and my owner's manuals confirm this, showing the VIN to be in only three places, and none are the engine nor tranny.

Stamped on the passenger side of the engine and a little below the dizzy's level are pretty large letters and numbers indicating the engine type. Post them and most anyone here will be able to tell you from what year and model the engine came.
