I think your best bet is to use the ecu you have now and chip it to remove any rev limiters and clean up the fuel and timing maps while your at it

There is also a way to convert an automatic ECU to a manual.

This was found by searching on Google.

"Yes you can convert an automatic P28 ECU to a manual ECU.All you need to do is remove jumpers RP17 and RP18 then jump RP18 with a 0 ohm resistor."

This info is pretty much useless if you're anything less than a pro with a soldering gun, but I'm throwing it out there anyways.

I would say a stock P72 would be better than a stock p28, or a p28 setup for the wrong engine. P72 already has the right maps and everything else needed to run a gsr right, since that's the ecu intended for the engine. Stock for stock, it'll definitely work better than an auto p28.

If you already got a p28 though, you can get it chipped to run a gsr fine.

Absolutely right. There is no point in wasting time mucking around with an ecu that has to be extensively modified to run your motor. Stock ecu is always best.
