So I just recently finished doing a D16Y8 head swap on my 1996 Civic LX, and properly wired everything up, and it runs great. I noticed after a few miles the P0453 code would keep coming up for the fuel tank sensor. I ended up doing the potentiometer fix from http://technet.ff-squad.com/code91.htm . I adjusted the pot to several values, starting with 2.5V, then incrementally increasing it every time the P1456 code came on. I did this after reading through page 11-181 of the FSM, as I assumed maybe it needed a higher voltage to read properly. Unfortunately, the code keeps coming up about every 300 miles. If anyone knows a fix for this please help me out, thanks.

Do you have two separate EVAP codes -- P1456 and P0453?

Have you checked the fuel fill cap for a bad seal and vacuum lines for a leak?

 

I had P0453 before I installed the potentiometer, now I throw only P1456. I adjusted to a low voltage as a test and threw P1457. I dont think it would have to do with the fuel fill cap since I dont actually have an in-tank fuel pressure sensor, which is what the pot. simulates. All the vacuum lines are fine.

 

Really, you've got two options as I see it.

1. Install the fuel pump + pressure sensor from a Civic EX and wire it properly
2. Use an OBD2 P28 (96-97 Del Sol SI), as this ECU is designed for a Y8 and the Del Sol SI has no pressure sending unit.

I used an OBD2 P28 on my hatch when it had a Y8 in order to pass the OBD2 scan for emissions.

 

Any idea where I could track down an OBDII P28?

 

They are hard to find, and people tend to confuse them with OBD1 P28s, which are definitely not the same.

Try www.car-part.com, they list a couple. Hopefully they are correct ones, you'd have to call the junkyards and ask.
