I figured out which red/black wire i need to reconnect. So I guess my only question is the bypass. Any of you guys know the proper way to bypass the dimmer all together?

What if I depin the red and the black wires from the dimmer switch plug and connect them, is that ok? or do they need to remain in the plug, connected with a jumper wire?

I believe there are three wires: RED/BLK, RED and BLK. (This is how it is on a 5th Gen. Civic)

I believe that to bypass the dimmer you would connect the RED with the BLK. Leave the connector on and just use a jumper.

Good luck.

I agree. With a jumper across the Blk and Red terminals, the dash lights will shine at full intensity when the parking or headlights ar ON.

thanks for the responses.
yes there are three wires. red (dimmer output), black (ground), red/black (parking lights-12v). You guys are correct, if i connect the output and ground (solid red and black) the dash lights will be at full brightness when on.
Will this way work the same as running a jumper? depin plug, remove pins, and connect. I have a harness that is already modified this way, have no idea if it works or not. I don't see why it won't. before i plug it in and f something up, I thought I would ask and see if someone could tell me why or why not.

i think he means if he solders the red to the black directly. and just omits the red/black wire.

Oh, okay. That should be fine. My recommendation would be just to jumper wire the connector so that you can easily reinstall the dimmer switch later if you want.

sorry for the confusion, I am a little confused myself about why the guy who had it before me would want to do it this way. ok let me try to explain. the plug that connects to the dimmer switch has 3 wires, black, red, and red/black. he left the red/black wire alone, and removed the black and the red wire from the connecter and soldered them together. I hope that explains it a little better
reinstalling the switch is not going to be important down the road. I just want to make sure im not going to fry the harness when i reinstall and try it out.

If you want the red and black wires jumped permanently, then soldering them was the best choice. Just cover the bare wires with insulating tape and you should be good to go.

Bringing up an old topic. I have 5th gen civic and recently purchased the SIR tach that has the gauge lights stay full blast w/o the use of my dimmer switch. So the only function that my switch is currently for is the climate control lights. I just received the delete plate for the dimmer switch but want to know what is the suggested Honda wiring for the 5th gen SiR so I can keep my Climate Control light on full blast and still use the factory plug to insert into the back of the delete plate. I want to keep my EG OEM as much as possible. Since the UK/JDM 92 SiR came like this from the factory I’m sure there is a wiring schematic for this idea. At least I hope there is.

Hello post from the ancient past.

I doubt there's a plug to insert in the back of the delete plate. The JDM and EDM vehicles did away entirely with the dimmer, and therefore didn't have the RED wire at all throughout the dash wiring. Lights that in North America are able to be dimmed through the RED wire are just grounded to BLK instead overseas. Therefore, just jump the RED and BLK wire and tuck it away behind the button panel so it doesn't rattle, and 'fuggedaboudit'. There's no practical way to make it OEM except by disassembling wiring harnesses and merging with a JDM/EDM one, but even then there are differences (cruise buttons, SRS differences, rear fog light, etc.).

My car no longer has SRS nor does it have the spot for it in the gauge collection. The light is blocked off on the SiR model. My dash currently only has the EDM Gauge collection w/o SRS, clock, stereo system, power windows, power locks, fog lights, sunroof, and soon dimmer switch.

all I have remaining are the rear defroster button (I barley used) and climate control unit.

If I switched to a JDM climate control unit will that eliminate the dimmer wiring? I was planning to do that in the future to use the Amber bulbs.

Also, I noticed my EDM gauge setup uses the blue bulbs. Did the EDM or JDM ever come with amber bulbs for the EG?
