00 ls auto motor in 98 civic auto ex
i have a 98 civic ex automatic car and bought a 00 ls motor with cable tranny. my old tranny was also a cable one. what all to i need to make this work. the motor came with ecu, axles, tranny, and wire harness. i was told that everything fits and that all i need is the 99, 00 si mounts. if so which ones and what do they look like
The short answer is you don't.
You can't use the harness (its a 2 piece design versus the '96 - '00 civic's one piece design. You also can't use the ECU for 2 reasons, 1 it physically wont plug in, must come from a '96 - '99 Integra, and 2 the '00 - '01 Integra ECUs have an immobilizer in them.
Why it doesn't work:
You're probably saying, but if '94 - '01 5 speed LS swaps are a direct swap in a '96 - '00 civic using the correct mounts then it only stands to reason that the automatic version of the same thing should also work, heres the story.
-The B-series automatic transmission is bigger than the manual version, the automatic version doesn't clear the passenger's side frame rail! You have to cut and notch the frame rail, even if this was the only major problem (and it isn't) this should be a good enough reason not to go any further.
-There are no OEM (or aftermarket as far as I know) transmission mounts and rear T bracket available to allow this to happen ('99 - '00 civic Sis only came as a 5 speed, and the Integra T bracket and upper transmission mount won't work), so you will have to fab up your own. But wait you say, '96 - '00 overseas civics came with B-series engines and automatic transmissions. This is true, however good luck finding those mounts, also its my understanding that these overseas models have a somewhat different engine bay.
-Integras use a seperate TCM (transmission control module) to control the automatic transmission. Civics don't, its all controlled through the ECU. Wiring up the TCM is not a particularly easy job, as a matter of fact I have yet to see someone doing this swap and have the transmssion shift correctly yet.
It is infinately easier to swap the chassis to a 5 speed. Basically it involves bolting up the manual pedal assembly (all holes are already drilled) and adding the master cylinder, clutch line and slave cylinder along with some minor wiring modifications.
so your possitive that i wont work because the guy that sold me the motor is willing to trade his eg hatch with and older ls motor and some mods thats running for mine with out doing to work but his car needs paint its primered, do you have a phone that i can text you pics to know if its worth it
Yes, here, observe ---> https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/honda-gsr-swap-getting-pita-2364737/ the fact that its a GS-R engine in his case doesn't make it any different just in case you were wondering.
