knocking sound at start up. what could it be??
when i start up my del sol after it hasnt been running for a long while it makes a loud knocking noise for just a second and then goes away. something in the valve train knocks real loud until oil reaches it. it sounds just like when you change the oil in a car, then start it up and it knocks for a sec because the engine is dry. any idea what may be knocking when i start my car?
You might want to try a new oil filter. One function built into a good oil filter is a valve that prevents oil in the head from draining to the oil pan when the engine is stopped.
You should proly get an oil pump my dude if you thinks its dry..or a new flux copastitor because if you don't have that then you can't reach 88 mph and travel in time
i use oem honda oil filters. i didnt think there was anything better than oem. i know the k&n filter has one of those valves but i thought oem was the best. i dont think that its something as simple as an oil filter. i think there is either something in the valve train that is messed up or a problem with the oil pump. any other thoughts what it may be?
well ive had a ton of honda motors do this. its kind common in the winter. cuz its cold out so the oil naturally gets thick and when it sits for a long period of time the oil slowly finds its way back to the oil pan and then since the oil is so thick it takes a sec to pump it back up into the bearings and the head. im big on letting my cars warm up to normal running temp b4 i drive them so if i was you then id just keep up on the oil changes and let it properly warm up b4 you drive it.

Is the oil level low?
Did you recently replace the oil filter? If so, maybe the valve in the current filter is bad and letting all the oil in the head drain back into the crankcase?
