well it depends where you live.. In California I dont think its legal to do that.. unless you can try and explain it to REF that you need a conversion harness in order to run an obd2a ecu because the obd2b has an immobilizer unit..
I'm almost positive they wont let you use a jumper harness in California, however you can always PM H-T user Katman, he has a service where he removes the factory immobilizer on OBD2B ECUs and replaces it with a dummy unit so it wont throw a CEL.
and also if your good with wiring you can splice your wires and make it look authentic.. of course this will take hours but sometimes that is the only way if you want to pass the visual inspection. but it will suck if they check out your ecu ports and find out that your using an obd2a ecu on an obd2b car..
im not 100% sure but from what i know the 00/01 ecu are the only ones equipped with immobilizer... im running one right now in my civic and didnt bypass it or anything just where ever you get your swap from ask the company to give the the key that belongs to that spacific ecu and car and tell them to give you ignition part where you insert the key because that has a sensor to activate everything.. but then again do your reseasrch because im not quiet sure thee 99 ecu has a immobilzer.
^^^^THIS IS CORRECT.
Jeebus, this question is coming up like twice a week lately.
If you can get away with it in your area, the *best* solution is to go OBD2a or OBD1. OBD1 gives you tuning options in the long run. Either one doesn't require you to hack up your ECU. Legally, you are technically not supposed to run a computer that's a different OBD level than your car, which is OBD2b. So technically, you should be running the OBD2b computer.
You can remove the immobilizer yourself and it will run 100% fine, but you will throw a constant code. The only way to keep a 2b ecu and not throw a code is to get a dummy immobilizer added where the immobilizer was. Katman can do this for you.
Man, I really need to call him and get him to fix mine one of these days.
