NEED HELP will a 99 civic si pass smog if...
Need help I might be purchasing a 99 civic si. The stock motor code I believe is b16a2 (usdm).
The guy is telling me he had the motor replaced with b16a (jdm) a few years back.
I am wondering if the car will pass smog?
Let me know!!
He said he had it pass smog few months back so wana make sure.

where you from CA, no it will not pass visual because it's jdm motor but seen like your icon said sacramento, ca so it depend on the smoger. it will pass smog if the crank sensor has been place on the jdm b16a but it depend if the smog guy will smog it because it's jdm motor.
Yeah California sucks for smog. It all depends on the smogger. You might get lucky since its supposed to have a b16 he might not even notice the missing number. Worth a shot. Take it to a no pass no pay shop.
i swapped a jdm b16a into my 2000 si, and it passes smog tests in colorado. different state obviously, emissions are easier in co than ca. as long as the person who did the swap just did the long block, kept all the sensors from the stock motor, you may be ok though. i had to change the oil pump to keep the crank position sensor, but no lights and it passes emissions. good luck.
