Gas Pedal "free play"
Quick question.
My gas pedal has about 10-15mm of basically "free play".
Is this normal? (I haven't had my R for a while and forgot).
My civic doesn't have this. Basically, it's firm from the moment you press
down on it.
Thanks in advance!

I can...that's not the point though.
Do the R's normally have any slop in them?

That sort of is the point... If there is free play in the pedal, tighten the throttle cable. The car will feel much better without slack in the cable.

And if you don't tighten the throttle cable, when you "floor" it, you might not actually "flooring" it. There will also be a slack between you press the pedal and the engine gets the "gas".

Well, I have a Helms, but I can't seem to find any info on the gas pedal. They list free-play specs for both the brake and gas, but not throttle. I was looking for instruction on how to remove the gas pedal, but couldn't find it.

I got my car back supposedly fixed.
I want to know if the shop f*cked that up as well as many other things.
Yes I can and WILL fix it like everything else that they forgot to do...
UGGGGHHHHH!!!!
Thanks.
Just making sure my R sucks and is not fixed.

Look at Helms 11-130 for adjustment!

You shouldn't need the Helms to adjust the throttle cable. It's pretty straight forward. There are two nuts you need to tighten.
It is a cable under the hood in the engine bay.

Troy-san - check your TEG service manual (i know you have one).
It should list the free play tolerance set at the factory.
If it's within spec, chances are that's how it was before.
If it's out of spec, chances are Dan f'd that up, too.
Hope that helps.

The easy way to check if you are getting full throttle opening is to get somone to floor the throtle with you under the hood checking that the linkage can not be pulled any futher open.
the throttle cable is SUPPOSED to have 10-15mm of slack in it.
This means that at closed position you should be able to move it back and forth
about that much. If you take out the slack, you can damage your throttlebody
and/or the throttle cable itself. The cable will actually stretch over time
and you will just have to tighten it again SOONER.
