will my 91 pass smog with.......
ya i know the lsvtec would technically be illegal but would the avg smog tech catch the head swap since the block would be legal?......and as far as the b17 could i just drop it in and be ok or would i have to go get it barred etc...
You would have to convert to OBDI and install all the emissions parts that were on a 92/93 GSR when it left the factory for it to be a legal. Cali smog law basically says you can take any older model car and swap in the engine from a newer version of the same model as long as you swap all the emissions stuff too
ok I guess that is what i should be asking. will the tech ovelook these swaps b/c same body style da had a gsr or because my ls block is in the car? Or when he goes to smog it will it specifically say it should have a ls motor?
If a 94 ls teg has a gsr motor in it will it pass visual?

If the mechanics at the smog station do not know or are aware of the swap, you can easily pass the visual inspection. Most people with swaps that are not legal find it hard to pass the visual and easy to pass the sniff. I've passed my B16 DA twice and two different smog stations. Tried 3 shops since I've had the swap, been rejected by 1 so far.
