Default Replacing torque converter, What to go with?

My sisters motor gave out at 300k so I will be getting her a new/used long block and I will be replacing the torque converter since it has alot of miles. What are some reputable torque converter brands that I should go with? Will I be okay with a kragen/napa auto parts torque converter, what are your suggestions?

Well just remember that the OEM torque converter has lasted 300k miles and so should another oem torque convertor. Sometimes buying house brands can cause more headaches and more $ in the long run. But Napa seems to have better built products but are more costly.

well, what car is this for? Is it for a 1990-2002 Honda Accord? If so, then yes, you asked in the correct forum.

Are you replacing the tranny too or just the torque converter? From what I can see the torque converter is a pretty strong component and doesn't usually go out, but I guess you would have piece of mind if you did replace it.

I would be more concerned about the transmission, but if all is well with both, I would just put the original back on.

there really hasnt been any probloms with the transmission. Maybe what i will end up doing is pouring out the oil from the torqe converter/tranny and put some new stuff in there, i think that will make a good difference. Any thoughts on this??

Well of course that is a good idea, but you're going to have to drain the tranny before you can take out the engine. If you don't you will have a big mess when you take the engine out and when you seperate the transmission from the engine the torque converter is going to spill out tranny fluid so be ready.

Of course, changing the fluid is always a good idea.

I think that is about right. I think it was 2.5 quarts to refill, but 6 quarts to fill from empty/new install. It's been a while, but I believe that is correct (6 quarts).

If you are worried, just keep checking your dip stick for your tranny.
