Default Turbo Cover Help

I'm trying to decide on what cover to get. What are the difference with power from these covers. I also have 3 inch IC piping and the motor is in the 400-500whp range.
s 4" 2.5" outlet
sp ported shroud 4" 2.5"
E 3" 2.25"

I have been suggested that the S cover is most common for performance. If someone could help explain the differences better to me i would greatly appreciate it. also can someon help explain the power and spool differences between a 62mm and 65mm wheel in the turbo.

All of these are variations of t04 compressor housing...

S housing - .70 A/R, 4" inlet, 2.5" outlet
E housing - .60 A/R, 3" inlet, 2.25" outlet
SP housing - same as S housing but has small ports surrounding the 4" inlet

the larger housings have the ability to flow a little more air therefore can support slightly higher HP figures, just make sure the larger S cover will fit you application. 3" IC piping on the hot side of the intercooler is a bit unnecessary and just makes piping fitment that much more difficult. And, typically speaking, the larger the wheel trim the more power the turbo is capable of. 62mm vs. 65mm will not see much of a spool difference, if any. The real determining factor will be on the turbine side of the turbo

its supposed to be for antisurge but really just makes the turbo whistle a little more LOL its pointless. you need ot figure out power goals and not worry about what compressor cover. you fit the turbo to the power goals by MANY factors. so whats the REALISTIC goal and peopel will be able to better help you choose something to fit your setup. IMO if your really shooting for 450-500 then a sc61 e cover or 60-1 e cover or s cover if it will fit the manifold you buy ao a t04e 60 trim. any one of those with a .63 hotside will work but i prefer to loose a little spool and gai more top end wit the .82 turbine side

I think i want something that spools a lil faster instead of the top end. So what cover do most people run when they use an sc61?

well most people running an sc61 are looking to max it out and they run an S cover but that will reduce spool slightly, s covers are for higher end power. the gt3076 and gt35 will also get youto the goals but there again a bigger turbo than needed. the 60 trim t04e is ideal for your goals as the turbo is good for about 550 vs an sc61 is a 650hp turbo

won't a 60 trim to4e make less power on the same boost as a sc61?

It will make less power on the same boost, but it will also spool quicker and be more streetable.

I read that it is suggested to use a ported housing for a motor smaller then 2.2 liters so i think i'll be getting the ported housing.

dont believe everything you read. Im running an SC63 without a ported housing with an E cover and only a greddy type rs BOV and only time i get any comp surge is when runnign higher boost levels. So what im getting at is its a waste of the extar money, get your self a good BOV and you wont have a problem

peopel have been running turbocharges for a very long time without ported housings. drilling holes in a house IMO does nothing, a real antisurge housing is that seen on the garrett gt turbos but thats just my opinion im sure others would argue that. either way for what your trying to do its not nessesary and not worth the extra money.
