Disk Brake woes!
So it feels like I have warped front rotors....I went to change the rotors and brake pads today, which should be easy....
I need some experienced advice on what to do now. Here is the issue:
I put the rotors on fine. No problem there. I went to put the brake pads on and there is the issue. The part of the caliper that rotates up...seems like it should slide in and out on that pin also, to be able to apply pressure to the outside brake pads. This I cannot get to slide out to get the outside brake pad on. I have no clue how to get it to slide. Am I thinking the correct thing? Any tips?
I was thinking of getting calipers from the junkyard and then getting everything working on those, then just swap them in.

C clamp didn't work.....broke the clamp. Looked at it again and it doesn't even move on the pin when the brakes are applied >_<. I also used a big hammer (5lb) and 20 mm socket to hammer on it from the inside, put the socket over the pin and hammered like crazy. The c-clamp....well....I used a closed end socket for more leverage and bent the handle on the c-clamp.....junkyard tomorrow morning to pick up new calipers. Will calipers off an 88 crx work? I assume they will.

btw, that c clamp suggestion was not good advice.

first of all, your description of whats going on is not very clear.
if you mean the slide pin is stuck to the caliper, then both probably need replacing. you dont want to replace the caliper with a used, unknown condition part from the junkyard. it is not advisable. do whatever you want, its your car.

Will the brakes from an 88 crx work fine on my 89 crx dx? I am not sure what model of CRX was in the junkyard, I forgot to grab the vin, but it is have a mpfi 12 valve engine in it.

pistons corrode when theyre not taken car of over time. seals go bad. brakes leak. theres A LOT to go wrong... its like picking up a used condom.
you do not want HF calipers from the mpfi 12 valve. they are undersized.
but otherwise, regular crx or civic 3dr calipers will be fine.

if its got the 12 vavle mpfi, tiny throttle body, its a HF. theres also a label on the back of the car for the uninitiated...
you should worry about seals... and stuff... you know, brakes arent THAT important or anything, they just stop the car from hitting other things. like i said, your car.

I said the seals are cheaper to replace, as in cheaper then the caliper. I would like to not have to spend 300$ on something I can do for cheaper. What is wrong with taking the caliper (the cast piece of metal....just a big chuck of metal...) and then replacing everything on it..?
