Garrett t3 gt30r help!
ok my friend has this garrett turbo that he just bought, its a 30r. thing is we can't completely identify what ar ect. it is. its t3 flange. only numbers we saw is 50 inside compressor housing, and 63 in the turbine housing. also on the compressor side its embroided garrett and all there is is a giant letter L symbol and a number 2. Also how do we test if the turbo is ok, it has very little play, nothing crazy, this turbo is brand new. thanks for your help guys, any other info you need ask, so that you can further assist us.
Its a .63 ar exhaust housing, .50 ar compressor housing.. You can remove the covers and measure the wheels exducer with a micrometer and the inducer while your at it to give you a better idea on which 30r it is.
Honestly though, why bother, just run it. For what your needing it for knowing the housings sizes is enough. Its just a little 30r, there is no need to analyze compressor maps and compare measurements for a sub 500hp car.
Put a oil restrictor in it, hook the water lines up, bolt it on the car and build some boost. Check for oil, and look for smoke. To test it simply use it and enjoy.
30r is a great street turbo, spools great, has excellent response and makes decent power.
Good luck

thanks alot, but will that shaft play be ok? its minimal, also i was watching all the videos online, people could blow in it and the compressor would spin, mine doesn't. i can spin with fingers , but is it supposed to be that easy to spin by blowing?
also to include, the compressor side has custom polished housing, and it looks like twin scroll. also the turbine housing doesn't have any garret etching on it. its a 5 bolt exhaust discharge. how do i identify this is a gt30r exactly?
you need to look at the center housing. There will be a little tag on there that says garrett and it will have some numbers on there. One of these numbers will identify the turbo.
Mine is a 700382-12
Also...the little play you are talking about is probably due to it not haveing any oil in it. My 30r works perfectly and has a very very small amount of play. As boosted b series said...throw it on and have fun.

Ah, you simply have the Standard GT30R that most people are familiar with. The 56 trim.

There is a tiny bit (hopefully you're not forcing it to make it have "play") of shaft play only because the oil is used to balance out the shaft during the 110,000rpm rotations that the turbo will see. They simply used a T4 divided housing (see sig).
Use a .035" sized-restrictor ONLY for the turbocharger , and please run the water lines.. Have fun!!

It's built in, but for Honda applications that have a little higher than average oil pressure, using the .035" is fine. Many use this combination with results that have lasted for years.

Looks like an ebay turbo with a garrett comp housing on it. There is no badge that I can see in the center section. Also the exhaust housing looks like an ebay brand.
