Painting / Tinting Intercooler Question?
I'm running a Precision intercooler on my EJ1. When putting it together I decided to keep my A/C, power steering and everything which makes for a really tight fit. In doing so, I couldn't tuck my intercooler as far back in the bumper as I would have liked to. My question is, my car is black, and right now it's got a big silver IC up front, and was wondering if you guys knew of any way/thing I could use to darken it up? Either make it black or at least tint it so it's darker and kind of blends in with the front of the car. Was debating on a few different paints, but didn't know how much paint would lessen the cooling ability of the IC and didn't want it looking all pitted up after a few months. I know they sell anodized ones, but I would like to keep the one I'm using now. If need be, I'll just keep it silver, just trying to get some input from some other users. If anyone’s got pictures of different techniques too, that'd be cool. Thanks - Steve C
I used a light coat of $.96/can flat black from WalMart. It looked GREAT (invisible) at first, and it works fantastically. Unfortunately, one of your stated fears came true for me. It got all pitted and chipped after a few months. I've got to pull the bumper facia again anyway, so I guess I'll just paint it again. If I do it the same though, it's not going to last. . .

I found a local place where I live using google. I'm sure you guys could do the same. There is probably a place in every decently sized city.

I live in Asheville, but it looks like they have a place in Charlotte too. Im sure you could ship them your stuff. I spoke with Tom, and I'm gonna drop some stuff off to be powder coated and my intercooler to be anodized next week. I'll let you know how it turns out.

There is a anodizing shop literally 2 blocks away from my house. THey do anodizing for Earl's and goodridge and many other part manufacturers.
I take all my aluminum parts to them.
THe last set I took was a Victor x manifold, Throttle body, fuel rail, intercooler, and some other small parts. Cost me 125 for everything.
THey do have a minimum of either 75 or 100 depending on who I talk to.
