worst day of my ep3s life!!!!
ok so i never thought i would be one the thoose people would are driving down the road and mis shift. mmhmmmm well i was on the highway doing about 75 and went to down shift to pass a car. i went from 5th gear to 2nd. somehow my shifter sliped over a notched and got me by surprise. i soon saw my head going toward the steering and saw my tac go from 6k to well prob 12k or some ****. all i know it went pass the redline bar and other some. i feel so bad doing that to my car. i dont hear any noise from it or smell anything nor leaks from now. i pulled over and check it all out and then went 1k to 6800 and check for sounds. it passed. my question is will it be fine? should i do a compression check or something becuase i cant afford major repairs right now. i have money saved for my peakboost

i mean if wasnt sittin there reving against the redline for long, i think you should be ok..
i did that once in my em1, but i let the clutch out slow, and as soon as i heard rpms screaming i clutched again and put in right gear. that was prob a year ago, and no problems. like Evil DC5 said as long as you wasnt redlining it long it should be no problem!@!

yeah i brought my car in today at my school and did a compression test. lol my teachers said i didnt need to do that becuase over reving damge wouldnt show up on that kind of test. well i do a leak-down test tommorw if i have time becuase im working on some shitty accord with a f22a1 that idles at 200 rpms lol sounds cammed and rocks the car haha
you may have bent valves, and they will mostly straightne them selves out, but have been severly weakened. In time you will probably drop a valve and then your motor is toast. The worst thing you can do after something like this is try redlining it or beating on it to see if it's ok. Stop now, bite the bullet and jsut replace all the valves....a little insurance will go a LONG way.
naw your kool i did that to my ep awhile ago but its nothing my car runs hard just try not to do that anymore..lol i hated myself for a week after doing that to my car i was high as fu^k tho..lol
noooooo! the car runs fine and it pulls hard and i redline a couple times racing some ***got in a egale talon and beat him. but from my understanding i should replace valves? i gotta take the head off and see it dont i. im freaking out cuz i trading my stock exhuast and manifold and injectors for a greddy kit with emanagment and the 3 inch exhuast for 1k. damn it damn it damn i wil never have a fast car if i keep taking two steps back
You were doing 75 and downshifted into 2nd, that means you probably slowed down a tiny bit because you were not on the throttle while the syncronizers where matching the engine speed to the wheel speed.
SOO, you were probably going 70mph when 2nd gear actually engaged, 70 in 2nd gear isn't a big deal, it's like 8500 rpm for the EP. People rev their A3's to 8500 rpm, not exactly great for longevity but it can see 8500 rpm here and there. You're fine.
You'd know if you bent valves, I know a few people that had horrible miss shifts and had bent valves and such, you definitely can tell the car doesn't run the same. Stop worrying.
12000 rpm would be about 100mph, you weren't even close to that.

lol ok dc5tuner. i went back in time to relized what i was doing. i was redling 3rd gear and shifted into 2nd instead of 4th. and my tac went past the redline barr on the ep3 to like the 20 miles per hour sign. leakdown test went fine. and drove another 175 miles today. i guess thats a beating i hope it wont ever see again.. i notcied that when going from 3rd to 4th pnce in a blue moon it doesnt want to engage. i think this is what happend that day. im going to go get some honda mtf. yummy lol i get for 5 bucks a peice
