HT I have a problem with my rebuild and I’m asking for a little help. I have torn down my B18C1 to replace the crank for a spun rod bearing on the #3 journal. I purchased another crank here on HT and the seller wasn’t able to remember the markings on the block for the main journals or the numbers marked on the rods to help get the OEM rod bearing colors. I have invested in a mic set from 0”-4” and a dial bore gauge, I will post some of those numbers below. I have searched all over the net and I’m pretty sure there are a few posts that I have missed but I’m hitting a brick wall any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know what the bore size for A B18C1 is for the main crank journal housing?

The reason I ask is because I can’t seem to get the correct reading with my dial bore gauge and I’ve read how to use the gauge but the measurements aren’t adding up.

Crank with spun rod bearing

Stock bore, wiesco/eagle setup

Unfortunately, I can't be of too much help other then to say that you may want to find a Helms online(for the specs), and also that it would be a good idea to check out Jeff Evans' article on building a GSR. He goes through bearing selection in a somewhat general way, but it may help!

 

I have a manual at home but will probably check out the online version now. I checked out the evens tuning tutorial and afterwards bought the tools mentioned just having trouble with setting up the dial bore gauge and zeroing it. I also checked out a few other sites that explain how to use the dial bore gauge but they all had a starting measurement to go on and i don't have one for the IDBT = inside diameter of bearing tunnel (housing bore) for a stock B18C1.

 

Sounds like you're on the right track! Bump for you, because I don't know the answer.

 

it's cool, someone knows hopefully they'll stumble upon this post. I also read that I could use the markings from my block along with the replacement bearings to get proper clearances

 

Try using a telescoping gauge for the bearing tunnel measurement, then measure it with a micrometer.

 

I actually heard the tool mentioned but didn't check it out, will be picking up a set asap. Thanks for the info.
