I need some help with checking rod bearing clearance how too's
ok, if I mic the inside of the rods without bearings, mic the journals, and caliper the bearing thickness... that would tell me the clearance and I wouldn't have to connect the rod to the crank for plasti gauge... is this correct?
I was thinking of just doing plasti gauge, but put the piston rods, and rings into the block after installing the crank. THEN plasti gauge to check clearance. is that not a good idea?
which one would you do, mic or plasti gauge?
Thanks for any help!
this has been re-worded in efforts to make some sense...

yep... I made one of those but not quite as nice. 10 min deal here:
it does the job, but with the crank on the holder, I need to hold the rod in place. the only way I know how to do that is to use a bench vice but I can't with the pistons on the rods... I don't want to take them off so I'm wondering if there's a safe way to do it in the block?
or any other ideas?
from this point whats the easiest way?
