I need a new radiator and wanted a little help choosing. I was wondering if it would be safe to run a half core civic radiator with a B17 DA. I don't really see why it would be a problem because my civic Si has a B16 with a half core that it comes with, so it seems that a half core would cool a b17 just as efficiently. The only reason I'm asking is because I need a radiator, and I'm considering going with a Mishimoto and the half core civic one is a bit cheaper. Any opinions are greatly appreciated, thanks.

yea that was another reason that I am considering it, for clearance issues. Is there any reason why the half core wouldn't cool as well as the full core?
I would think with half as much surface area the half core wouldn't cool as well as the full core, that doesn't mean it won't be sufficient as many people run the half core

Hmm, that's a good point. But then it makes me wonder if the full core is necessary or not, because other cars with similar engines run oem half cores with no problems, that I'm aware of. I wonder if a full core does, like you said, cool better because of more surface area. Would be great if someone somehow knew if it was actually better to run a full core vs. a half core, or if it would only be necessary in a high performance built engine that would heat up more, thus making it "better" to run a full core.

Okay, I'll just assume that I won't be at any risk running a half core vs. a full core. It doesn't seem that there is any reason why I should spend the extra money for the full core if a half core is easily reliable. Thanks for all of the input everyone.

Just make sure if you go half core... to use the duel core rad from a 00 si... the half core that comes on a base civic is a single core.. and the one on a 00 si is a duel core... im running a 00 si rad and it works just fine and it clears my rmf headers

It seems that the half length mishimoto one has two rows in it like you're talking about.
Use a dual core half rad.
Make sure you make a block off plate for the other side though. Air follows the path of less resistance.
