my Rear shocks that hold up the hatch for my 98 gsr has blown. anyone know where i can get them? they seem to be very expensive from the dealer from what ive heard. also the part number would be appreciated.
go to auto zone they call them mighty lifts, match them up with your old ones, or

It's common on most Honda/Acura cars for those hatch/trunk struts to wear out after about six years. They stop holding the hatch up in cold weather first, then they stop holding it up at all.
As you can see from the link above, they list for around $80 and you can get them from Delray for around $60.
A place to buy aftermarket ones for $23 was posted recently on the ITR forum. Click here.
There's also a guy in Canada who can rebuild them for you, better than new, for a lot less than new stock ones. But you have to send him your old ones and wait for him to send them back to you. Click here.

I haven't used the aftermarket ones. The ones that Frank at Strutwise rebuilds are supposedly better than new, or so I've been told by folks who bought them.
No, they don't help hold the hatch down.
My GS-R makes the same noise, kind of a jiggling/rattling noise in the latch. It does it when the hatch has been recently opened. After a while, if I don't open the hatch, it stops making that noise. It's possible yours is doing the same thing, and it's making the noise because you're opening and closing the hatch frequently. Just a thought...
