Icon2 Oil overflow

A buddy of mine took his Crx to a shop to get his oil changed over the winter and I guess the shop put to much oil into the motor. After he came home, the car started smoking like crazy. He let the car cool down and checked and oil was spilling. He went back to ask and they said it's not their problem.

I just want to know whats wrong with the motor if there is an oil overflow. Is it the pistons, cams, rods, rings? What would be the cause of it.

Let me know I would appreciate it. THANKS

well id say he could have a lawsuit on his hands if it was something that they did, as in put to much oil in. When mine had to much oil the front main seal next 2 the cam gears went out on me and i had to get that replaced. i suggest he never take his car back to them again

Where is the oil coming out from and what was the dip stick reading?

One thing that comes to mind is the oil filter gasket. I have seen them get stuck to the block and a lazy oil tech(usually some barely competent person if at a quick change place) failed to notice the gasket did not come off with the old filter and put the new one on. When this happens the gaskets will twist up and not seal at all creating lots of places for oil to pour out.

Or two they forgot to drain the old oil.

I have seen first hand this happen to people I know and this is why I do all my own maintenance.

X2, i sadly have done that myself once, take off the oil filter and see if there are 2 rubber seals, if thats the problem just add oil to where it needs to be and get a new oil filter

Check the dipstick.

If it has too much oil the crank can whip it into an aereated foam that will not flow or seep well.

Find out where the oil is leaking from and let us know.
