My car is smoking when idling and it pours smoke out when i get on it. i cant really describe the smell but its like brownish grey. any ideas??

 

1) Do you have a cat?
2) How long has this been going on?
3) Any excessive oil burning?
4) Ever have to add coolant?
5) Hows your mpg?
6) Any check engine light?

 

either timing is off or your running rich... or it could be both

 

i had a vafc. i just took that off and now am running a chipped p06 w/ no rev and no speed limiter. my heater core started leaking fluid on my floor boards so i have put fluid in it once. i dont have any CEL's. Oil level is good. it has been smoking for about 2 weeks. now my car is runing really rough. barely getting to idle at first. i have a cat but its hollowed out

 

Was it two weeks ago when you installed this chipped p06 ecu by any chance?

 

nah, ive had the chipped ecu for a couple years now but i just installed this motor over xmas break

 

Is the chipped ECU set up to run a GSR?

If you got the chipped ECU a couple years ago and just installed the engine, I'm assuming it's not.

 

no, ive had a gsr in for a few years. i spun a rod so i bought another gsr engine and dropped it in and fixed the shitty wiring job from before. i was planning on building the other motor but now the car barely runs. i read on another forum that it could be irregular compression so maybe a blown head gasket? i just need some help, im gonna check the compression when i get the tester

 

Oh ok, that makes more sense now. ECU can be crossed off the list of potential problems.
Not sure what it might be.
