Default harbour freight vise

Not sure if this is a "real" HF vise but it looks the same to me. I got it free with my workbench from a friend a while back. I know some guys really like the HF vises because they are cheap... and yes I know this is not the intended use, so I'm not pissed that it broke, just kind of surprised since I've done this many times before.

Today we were using it to pop some LCA bushings out, and....

I have that same vice I got from a local hardware store....Does popping out the budshings really put that much stress on it? Or was there a hairline crack before? Looks like a casting defect maybe?

Looks like yours was made from old BBQ's instead of old brake rotors.

LOL Weld it up and it'll be good as new .... I had to do it to the bed on my drill press.

I'll probably just go get another one. Like I said above I got it for free, and I was using it "incorrectly" kinda. Otherwise it's been good, I do beat the **** out of it and it's held up fine. Just doing some little things around the shop yesterday I already missed its presence, had to steal the little one of my welding table

we've broke 2 vices this year at the shop. one was from home depot and the other from lowes. this time I think we finally got a good one that didnt have any defects. ours broke both times in that same spot

Vice doesn't equal a press. Buy a press.

I know, like I said though I've done this many times before. I prefer to use a vise and just take the rubber/center sleeve out and cut the outer sleeve. Up here they get so stuck that I've bent control arms trying to get stuff out with a press before, its a pain.
