Icon6 I am a little confused.

I just got my crank back from the shop and I am a little confused about how to go about sizing my bearings. The guy who did the work on my crank said I needed to use standard bearings on my rods and .010 over on my mains.

Now, everything I have ever read about sizing bearings for a Honda says to use the color chart method, yet he is saying just buy standard and .010 over bearings and use plastigauge to check clearances.

Do I need to use the color chart method or should I buy standard bearings and use plastigauge to make sure they are in spec?

you ultimately should mic your crank and mains to determine whatever size you need.

I would never recommend grinding a Honda crank undersize. They have a surface treatment that doesn't go very deep. The tend to fail quite often after being ground.Honda is one of the few manufactures that have more than one "standard" size so many general shops don't even know about them.

Congrats on the new paper weight. Go buy another crank. Have it POLISHED, and build the motor using the correct color bearings, then plasti-gage to verify it.

U will either need a oem honda manual to use the chart or have the proper measuring equipment to determine the bearing thickness.

This site has all the bearing thicknesses. Very good info might I add
http://www.laskeyracing.com/shop/bearingthickness.htm

BTW greens are the STD size according to the charts

Someone care to elaborate on why honda cranks can not be turned? Is it because of the coating they have?

Yep, surprised the shop ground the crank down at all, most wont even touch a Honda crank except to micropolish it.
