fish eye / orange peel??
just got my car painted, hasn't been buffed/polished/wet sanded or whatever yet but my friend says there is hella orange peel and fisheye.
Just wanted to get the exact definition of what orange peel and fisheyes are cuz i searched the web and here and can't get a good idea. Maybe im slow but yeah also, would buffing/polishing/wet sanding fix these problems? how long should i let the paint settle in before doing all that anyways?
thanks!!

fish eyes come from a area that is not clean of all oils and silicone. orange peel is can be taken out with cut and buff but you can also go through thoes area alot faster then other areas.

orange peel is after the clear coat is applied, like finished painted, to get rid of, you need to wet sand it with a very high grit like 1500+ and then clear coat it again.
fish eye is exactly what it sounds like, the dot in the middle is the part the paint isn't sticking to the surface, like you would see all smooth and then little circles because for some reason the paint/clear coat isnt sticking, could be because of oil/grease or other contaminants that causes the paint to not stick
get the car repainted.. if its bad.. out of all the things I've painted only fisheyed twice.. the spots i didnt prep my self.. Orange peel usually comes from not "wet" enough clear if its bad peel wet sand it and get it re-cleared.. if not wet sand it and polish it out..
Could be worse. Check out this OEM paint. If I saw that on a lot, I would walk off and refuse to buy a car from that manufacturer altogether.

that OEM sucks ***. lol.
but if there is only orange peel, buffing will take it out after a bit of wetsanding or buzzign it over with 1500 or 2000 grit. but i would repaint if there is fisheyes tho. that means the prep was done poorly.

Fish eye's more often than not, can not be cut/polished out unfortunately.
oem paint jobs always have orange peel....paint a car for a guy who wants it to be factory and the area you blended looks way better then factory and he bitches
Every vehicle has orange peel so that the uv's bounce off the texture off the clear, and get least amount of rays on the base. Why is it that you think when you color sand and buff the clear "FLAT", no peel it lasts only so long?Rather than 7plus years?Cars with no peel are show cars, only taken out on a sunday, and back in the garage. As far as fish eye that happens with pratically any silicone,grease........ETC on the panel,or floating in the air.Heard numerous stories people washing a car and putting tire shine outside the shop. And the guy in the booth started having fisheye problems becuase the intake fan sucked the silicone in the air in.Thats why if you where in a shop and detailing the car try to stay as far away as possible to try to drift it to the other direction.Same goes for wax and grease remover. You're not suppose to use it for the last wipe down of the panel or panels of the vehicle. Its intentions are so you use it when you recieve the vehicle before you start. You wipe it all down so all the contaminations don't get trapped in the undercoats, when you begin sanding. But people anyways use it for the last wipedown and use it inncorrectly I mean if your using a product that shouldn't be use as the last wipdown at least use it correctly.Wipe it wet and follow another clean "DRY" towel behind it and wipe off until you see absolutely no residue.Fisheye gets caused like 70% of the times if you do the wax and grease procedure incorrectly.Prepaint cleaner is the proper procedure but you must be worn you must work fast!!!!! Wipe on wipe off fast!!!! Karate kid fast.Or you can use a new product call waterbase cleaners I like them so user friendly and deffinetly get the job done.I'am going to upload some pics of fisheye problems when I get back from work.
heh, OEM Orange peel is hideous! It's funny, because when I rate the paint job on cars, custom painted cars specifically, I say to myself "at least it's better then OEM"
DAMN! You guys know if the guy at the shop would redo the paint if there's fisheyes? Or is it something i'm gunna have to live with. Thanks
