your boost will kick in at a rpm just shift lower then that point. depends on your set up i said 3500 rpm shift will do you fine.

/facepalm ..
Just drive it easy, don't push the gas pedal more then halfway and you'll prolly never go into boost.

I wouldn't let the car see any boost and to be honest if it was my car i wouldn't drive it in that condition. Does the car have a boost gauge? Just make sure you stay in vacuum. Don't let it overheat

so now turbo's spool at certain rpm's? like its preset in the turbo itself huh? you can drive that thing all day every day without getting into boost. not sure how to explain it, but its almost like there's two throttle positions, ie; 3,000 rpms, and 3,000 rpms with boost. it all depends on how hard you accelerate. you can drive a turbo car, without getting into boost. its not hard. just don't think you have to race everywhere.

just drive it by putting as little load as possible on the engine, and keep it in vacuum as much as possible.

Right?

OP, unless your friend's ok with it, I wouldnt want to be liable of any damage as a result of the blown gasket and potential coolant/oil contamination issues that are present with a blown HG. Let your friend drive it, or better yet tow it.

he doesn't know how to drive stick. so thats why i am driving it to his house. the seller told him that it is burning coolant at high RPMs. i am going to JOTECH to get a price check to fix the damn thing, which is 3 miles away from the sellers house. and my friend lives about 10 minutes away. my friend will be with me. i will stay under 3000. we are picking it up tomorrow. i wouldnt be surprised if it ***** up on the way home. lots of people told him not to buy the damn car even me...
