BFG R1s 225/50 R15s on a 7 inch rim
Hey guys,
My local rules for road racing only allow me to run a 7 inch wide wheel. I was wondering if it is possible to run a 225/50R15 on my slipstreams which are 15x7. I would attempt to mount one myself but I am having a hard time finding them up here in the great white north. I want to avoid buying a whole set only to find that I can't make them fit on the car. Thanks for your time as always.

The answer is yes, most of the time. It all depends on the tire manufacturer. All tires are not created equally, and all 225 tires are not the same width. Check what the manufacturer spec is for the tire your interested in - they'll give a size range for the rim.
You may want to consider the 225/50r15 for sure for clearance if you intend to run racecity, i know i cracked 2 rims in the chicance with the 50 series 205's you may need the sidewall to absorb some of the impact from racecity's curbs. However now having stronger wheels i am also conisdering the 225/45r15 in the R888 wider is always better but some serious flaring will be required in the rear of the EF as i rub the rears (with rolled fenders) at current ride height and +38 offset.
Anyway just some food for thought and what i've experienced, if you do run the BFG let me know what you think. Bang for buck TOYO has always been the best for me just for wear.

If you have to shift halfway down the straight at Road America with 225/45-15, then you have to shift another few hundred feet down the straight with 225/50-15. Those straights (at least, the front straight, the back straight, and the one from the Kink to Canada Corner) are LOOOOOOONG!!!

Yes, well, half-way was a slight exaggeration. Some real numbers if anyone's curious. My top speed (rev-limited) with 45's (as well as 14" rims and tires given the same overall diameter) is ~114-117 mph. My top speed (rev-limited) with 50's is ~125-127 mph (my estimate of drag limited top speed is ~130 but I've never got to test this). I have not run the current gear at RA, but with a stock gear (which would be a lower overall gear than the new gear with 50's) I hit ~120 into Canada, so I expect to be hitting ~125 now.
Note: These are all estimates because my speed is calculated from the tach, and I don't know how the effective rolling diameter of the tire will change with weather, heat, speed, etc.
