Default How to ensure I have a d16y5 head on my car

If you've been following my threads, it turns out somebody tried converting my HX to an EX.. they put in a p2p, an ex y8 intake mani, header, and possibly head. I'm hoping they didn't touch the head, but how can I be sure?

Thanks all,
Matt

I'm asking how to tell if my head is still a Y5 head... but no, ex and hx intakes are different. EX heads dont have EGR, HX do.

Where is the head stamp located?

The head stamp at least on B-series engines is above the exhaust ports, the only problem is it wont really help you much, the head code for both the Y5 and the Y8 is P2J. The bare head is the same, the cam and rockers are different though. Remove the valve cover and take a look, if you have roller rockers you've got the correct head.

Is there a way I can tell by peering down the oil filler? It sure looks like roller rockers from up here!

Pop the valve cover off and see if it has roller rocker arms

Honestly I've never really looked. It only takes about 10 minutes to get that cover off though.

Will I have to replace the valve cover gasket? I'm scroungy as **** when it comes to doing things that appear unnecessary :p

Its actually a rubber seal, i've reused tons of them without any issues (obviously if its become hard and brittle its likely that it will begin to leak, but in that case it was due for replacement anyway.
