i have the opportunity to pick up a new fit sport when i get back from working in alaska. i like the looks of both, though i lean towards the 07+ but the 09 is really nice. however im not a fan of drive by wire. what are your opinions on the two. is one better than the other. im looking at it from a daily driver/fun car stand point.
thanks

i can afford either. im just thinking about the aftermarket support available on the old one, though im sure in a few months it will be available for the 09. plus i new car warranty would be great
For a fun daily driver no question go with a new 09.
The 09 is significantly better safetywise, has new car warranty, a little more interior room, better ride, more steering wheels adjustments. You should be able to find one for invoice price give or take $100 and you'll get a better interest rate on a new car. The aftermarket will catch up on the 09+ models soon enough.

$100 wouldnt change ****. you can find 08's still with warranty and you can buy warranty for 07-09 if it doesnt have it. id say get an 07-08 because you can still find them with low miles and cheaper than an 09.
being its your daily driver i dont see why you would need to fork out the money to buy a brand new car

Invoice on an new 09 sport auto is $16,501. Invoice on an 09 sport manual is $15,685.
Assuming you can negotiate the used car down $1500 from their asking price you'd still save less than 2 grand by going with an 08. When you figure in the higher interest rates on used cars and the fact that new car purchase sales tax is going to be a tax deduction you'd only save about a grand in this case.
07-08 is only worth it if you can find 1 you like for under $12k with low miles and are willing to settle for the 1st gen car. Sorry I know there are a lot of fans of the 07-08 on this board. But they haven't depreciated much and its a design that debuted in 2001.
the basic silhouette and shape of the first gen is more refined. you can trace the evolution of design with some of honda's most successful models like the eg hatchbacks and early CRXs. there is a clear definition and transition between the front end of the car to the a-pillars for example. i really like it and i wish i had the money to have bought a brand-new one before the change to the current shape.
the current fit design, although close to the first gen in shape and overall size, seems to be heading in the toyota prius direction of a egg-shaped aerodynamics. im sure it makes it more streamlined for fuel economy and such, but damn, this is the same reason why i hate the way some new cars are being put out now....ep3 civics included. sorry if i offended current owners above...

I drove an 08 and loved it! Took a peak at the 09 and the interior is awesome. I really like both but I'd almost have to flip a coin to make a decision. Actually I need to drive an 09 before I say that.
From an autocross standpoint, the second gen can't hang. My first gen rides rough enough to **** off the wife, but holds it's own in the corners. The wife want's me to get one because of how "cadilac" they ride on the freeway. But it's a big to "granny" for me. I say let the car meet your needs. Do you want to have fun? Or do you want to just get there?
I just bought a 09 MT Fit Sport in September 08.
There was NO price negotiation (in Sept 08), the demand for the Fit was way too high.
They had a list of incoming Fits for the next month and over half were already sold.
But that was September.
I love my 09.
