I agree with too much torque.

In my experiences, I prefer a throttle cable.

I'm sure one day DBW will be ok, however thus far I have yet to drive a car with it that I really thought it was good on.

yeah for some reason dbw just seems like another way to disconnect the driver from the actual process of driving the vehicle. too jerky for my taste

Jerky? Have you driven the DBW S? If you plan on tracking the car, or doing extensive modifications then I would stay away from the DBW. If you are looking for better traction control, and gas millage then go for the DBW. It just depends on what you want to do with the car. With the proper computer system, there is nothing wrong with DBW. It' merely integrates the control of the throttle plate into the ECU.

This. It's all about what your goals are with the vehicle.

With a stand alone that can actually control DBW (motec, pectel, etc) or on some cars (not s2k) a factory ecu reflash a DBW throttle will react as fast as you can move your foot and act 100% like a cable throttle with the added advantage of a better method of traction control, rev limiting and als. That said unless you plan on spending the money to gain control over the throttle I would rather have a cable, I have an M800 and will definitely be going out of my way to convert to DBW the advantages with throttle control through an ecu are huge.

I agree cable all of the way.

BUT.... I have driven an 06' BMW 335 with DBW and enjoyed it.
it did take some mental re-training to do heel-toe but it was doable.

you just have to re-tune your mental 'PID loop' (for you control Engineers out there)

i have driven many a s2k, and own 2 ap2's. in everyday driving, there is no noticeable difference between the two. but, in race situation, the dbw cars have a little "delay", which you learn to drive around. all in all, the dbw is much better in the s2k then many bmw's & audi's i have driven.

This is not correct. DBW can be quick, but will never be as snappy as mechanical throttle linkage.

Honestly...IDK...

BUT, some race cars use DBW in formula 1...these cars ecus have been monitored to ensure that they don't use this technology for traction control...

It stands to reason that if formula 1 cars use DBW to enhance their performance, without using DBW as a traction control unit. Then DBW is useful in performance applications other than just being used as another form of traction control...

I like the throttle cable idea as I am a DIY kinda guy...but obviously DBW has applications that MAY again I say MAY increase the performance / drive ability of high performance cars...

BTW...while this is absolutely true...

The difference in time with a good cpu to process is probly less than 2 milliseconds...maybe even less than 1 millisecond

not much difference considering @ 2 milliseconds it would take 500 turns to equal 1 second

basically a 20 turn track... a lot of turns would take 25 laps to equal 1 second of difference...

For those people who are hating on the DBW on the S2000, have any of you driven/owned one? I had both an 01 and my current 07 and I can NOT tell the difference at all. I would not say one is better than the other. But of course, whoever mentioned that it's dependent on your goals for the vehicle, he is right. Currently, there are some limitations to modifying DBW equipped cars.

just like many pilots have told me, they still want a mechanical connection with their controls no matter how advance things get...
