Default LS VTEC ?'s

I have a 99 ex coupe. LS VTEC swap, B18B1 block out of a 98 integra ls. and a 00 civic SI head... My ecu is a p2t out of the SI civic... I have no knock censor. I have read that if there is no knock, then the vtec wont engage? My vtec engages just fine and hits really hard and good... Is there a way to see if my ecu has been reprogrammed or the knock board taken out??

I also wanna know how to get the car to pass emissions...

I have a similar set up awhile back with the same p2t ecu, but recently swap to chipped p28, and no you dont have a chipped ecu. On my setup i have the knock sensor plugged in the harness, but I just zip tied it to the fire wall, if you want it done legit, just tap the hole by the alternator and your set. As far a passing emission's, you can't actually legally do it, because it is not a stock production engine, but sometimes the pep. at the ref or smog dont even know or dont care.good luck

As long as it will pass the smog test here in Utah, then im fine but this means I must have NO CEL's at all... I dont think I can pass on a Tuned P28 either... so I'll have to fix the CEL's with the motor and ecu i have in now, right?

Yeah I do.. Its throwing 2 codes, an o2 sensor code but thats only cause my o2 isnt plugged into the catback by the shiftlinkage on the bottom... easy fix, and its throwing a knock censor code, its a B18B1 outta 98 ls integra, and a B16 head off a 00' SI civic... And a P2T ECU. So its looking for the knock. but people are telling me if I just wire up a knock and tap the block I should be fine.. but oneforce (above) just zip tied his too the firewall and wired it up so that might work.. it should pass smog in Utah once there is no CEL's.. Do you have any info that could hlep me PhrequenC??

i did my research before i started the ls/v. i ended not doing it becuase i needed money. but from the information i learned and the way i did it.. was to chip an ecu.

i have a hondata s300, on my 00 ex. i just disabled the knock sensor. although i dont know if it will pass emissions or not.

your best bet is to do like you said, get the knock sensor and drill the block.

---- OR ----
ill do some research right now since im in school and see if i find anything about knock sensor, couldnt you just use a resistor to "fake" it

All B-series VTEC ECUs will require you to use a knock sensor. Unless yours was reprogrammed to not look for one, one will have to be retrofitted into the block since there aren't any provisions for one on the LS. Some non-VTEC engines have a blank spot on the rear of the block where the threaded hole would normally be drilled on a VTEC model.

If you're lucky to have this blank spot on your block, use a 10.9mm bit and drill a hole deep enough to run a 12mmx1.25mm tap through it a few turns. For those not so lucky you'll have to either find another spot on the block where a hole can be drilled or have your ECU reprogrammed. Throwing a knock sensor malfunction code automatically disables VTEC. With our Civic, a Hondata-modified ECU was used, which did not require a knock sensor. The Hondata unit will also allow us to extract additional horsepower from the engine later on, thanks to its fine-tuning capabilities.
Those are your options. Chipped ECU or Drill the block for sensor

Why not just chip your ecu? Then you open more options for tuning.. And you don't have to pull the engine out.

think about you still are going to need a chipped ecu with a tuning program.

would you pass smog if your car is running rich??

obd2 ecus are not chipped and you said its throwing the code for knock so its still looking for it. as far as knock sensor stopping VTEC its not true and since yours still hits hard that is your evidence.

As far as passing emissions you HAVE to stay obd2b. now to pass you will need all codes fixed like you said and have all emission components. but I dont know if a LS vtec will pass or not w/out a tune and you can only really tune obd1 ECU's and they wont pass a 99 obd1 car.

Around here in MD they will pass you if your car is real low so they dont damage it on the roller things. you could give that a try if your car is low.

"1. First, go to Radioshack and buy a piezo transducer, part #273-073. You will find it will all the buzzers because that it's intended for. It costs $1.99.

2. Find which wire going into your ECU is for the knock sensor. If you have a 96-00 civic, it is the Red wire with a blue stripe. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T MISTAKE IT FOR THE BLUE WIRE WITH A RED STRIPE. That's for your AC system. Cut the wire about 6" from the ECU.

3. Tape the transducer to your fuel rail.

3. Weave a single wire from your fuel rail back to your ECU.

4. Connect the speaker wire to the (+) wire on the transducer.

5. Connect the other end of the wire to the Red/blue wire on your ECU.

6. Connect the (-) wire on the transducer to a good ground."

I got this from (https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced-induction-16/knock-sensor-bypass-methods-part-numbers-1181854/) here. That is what I did to my SI with ls/v, and that's how I pass inspection. Just make sure you put it somewhere were it will vibrate alot. It really works if you do it right.
