Vin number badge (actually the holes) will give you some clues.

not sure, maybe the final drive, but I'm not sure about the code

I'll look @ my JDM tranny this week and let you know. I think they all say S80 though.

I guess the 98+ Euro spec trannies are labelled 'E3D.'

98+ JDM will have S80 and 96-97 USDM&JDM will be one of these Y21/Y80/S80/S4C
