Default Timing

I'm still on a stock engine, but I heard that changing the cam gear timing to 18 degrees will give the car a little more push. Would I get any detonation on stock compression?

Are there other non-bolt on modifications to the stock car to increase performance? Like I heard removing the intake resonator will free it up a little and things like removing PS pulleys.

The p/s belt removal make a few hp.
The intake resonator removed has shown to actually lose hp.

free hp/tq: remove P/S belt, turn of A/C, 18 degree ignition timing, and weight reduction (backseat, spare, tool kit, etc)

no detonation for me with 18deg timing
18 is still within spec, so i wouldnt worry
i have never dynod my car so i cannot prove this, but i cut up my intake resonator and used the pieces to make my own CAI
and it feels like it improved things, but then again, i added a k&n 2820 at the same time, so who knows...

how do you advance the timing? do you not need aftermarket cam gears?

http://www.c-speedracing.com
look in the howto section, it describes how to advance ignition timing.
bascially, u short the service connector of the ecu, loosen up the distributor, and with the aid of a timing gun,
make your adjustments.
tighten distributor, unjump connector, and there ya go.
does not require any aftermarket parts.
