Default Let's play another round of, NAME THAT BOLT!!!. Lots of PIX inside

Car: 94 civic ex coupe d16z6 all stock

Ok, While I was trying to figure out why my tranny was leaking oil. I happened to notice that there was a bolt directly above the inside driver side axle. The bolt is immediately above where the axle sits or plugs into the transmission. I tried torquing down the bolt but it did not want to budge and I didnt want to force it down. I have added a bunch of pics for refrence.

My question, what is that bolt for and what does it do or hold.

Part 2 this bolt here for the tranny shifter I noticed moved when turning it with my fingers. Both bolt and nut moved together when turning with fingers. I couldnt turn it 360 degrees but just a couple centimeters in the lefty loosy direction. It appears like its the type of bolt that has to be tightened down by securing both the nut and bolt. Anyway is this normal that both the nut and bolt has play in it when turning it in the lefty loosy direction(a couple centimeters)?

Can't really tell what #1 is...maybe a mount bolt? If it is, then it could just spin because its not lined up.

#2...wow... Someone replaced the bitch pin with a bolt. I have never seen that before. The bolt looks bigger than a bitch pin, so whoever did it had to drill the linkage and the shaft going into the transmission.

whoa, so for question number 2, the bolt with arrow is suppose to be a bitch pin? I am assuming this is not the technical term. I will look it up, but in the mean time, can you explain, is this a major no, no? The car shifts fine by the way. especially for a 13 year old car.

^ #28 is the bitch pin. As for a no-no...I wouldn't do it. Someone just got lazy.

its called the bitch pin cause its a bitch to get out lol
amd yea its major if someone drilled it out for a bigger bolt the pin isnt going to fit back in.
but of it shifts fine i honestly wouldnt worry about it

If a mechanic did it, i dont see why he would drill a bigger whole, when he could just use a nut and bolt that fits in the bitch pin hole. Either way, according to that part diagram, it looks functional with the bolt or bitch pin.

so that clears up question 2. Its fine that it spins a bit as long as it doesnt fall out. Now for question 1 yall...

just tighten up the bolt for the shift linkage and you will be fine

as far as number 1, its hard to tell but maybe part of the rear motor mount? what year civic and what motor is that? that will give us a little more help to figure it out.

I tried tightening number 1 but its really tight and I didnt want to break something. When you say, rear motor mount, is it just for connecting the engine to the tranny?

Do you guys think its dangerous to be driving around like this? I am sure there are other bolts in place for the same reason. Is this critical

as for the bolt being the replacement for the bitch pin i have seen 2 that were done that way both of them i have seen when i worked at a shop and the cars came in for clutch jobs if the hole was drilled out you can put a bigger bitch pin in they sell them at bolt supply companies, if not you can hope that you order the right size off jegs or summit they have variety packs on there also as for one the bolt might be to long and it bottomed out so find the right bolt also

Bolt #1 is probly hard to turn because the mount is on the car and weight of the motor/trans is on the bolt. try lifting the motor up a bit (w/ blocks) and then tightin and if that bolt is lose i would check all the others 17mm is correct size (preffer 1/2 ratchet)

Bolt #2 somehow the Roll/bitch pin fell out of my Ef and the shift linkage fell lol but i went to my local Napa and i got one that was a lil longer but nothing a grinder couldnt fix so if its drilled out then idk u can try and find one that size but i know stock ones are available

shifting feels fine and exact. It's just loose rocking it left and right while in nuetral but I hear that is normal.
