d12 upgrade i think
hi guys. need help as to what to do. i have i think a 91ef with d12 engine and want to swap with a d15b vtec. what are the things i need. im a newbie. if i would not do the swap, what can i do to improve on power? hoping for your help guys. thanks!
Where are you from buddy?
I'm pretty sure the smallest engine that came in the EF was a 1.3 not a 1.2. Either way they where both carbed, so you'll need the intake manifold, a fuel injected model's fuel tank and fuel lines. The ECU, and harnesses will have to be sourced as well.

thanks for the reply...im from the philippines. someone is selling me a d15b engine but its quite expensive. is there another way to increase the power because it has a hard time going uphill. i have to be in 1st gear most of the time when running on inclines. install headers and overhaul? what do you think?
First thing first you have a d12 which is the smallest d series available (63hp)
D12A
* Found in:
o 1988-1991 Honda Civic & City GG G-Mark Special (Japanese Market)
+ Displacement : 1,237 cc (75.5 cu in)
+ Bore and Stroke : 72.0 mm × 76.0 mm (2.83 in × 2.99 in)
+ Compression : 9,5 : 1
+ Power, Torque : 63 hp @6500 rpm , 65 @4000 rpm
+ Valvetrain : SOHC, 4 valves per cylinder
+ Fuel Control : Single Carburetor
So pretty much any other d series engine will give you around 30hp more. So the best thing to do is upgrade the engine to a bigger d series it doesnt have to be a d15b. Especially if you want something cheap, I would just stick to a carburated d15b3(95hp)Unless you want to save and do the full conversion to a d16.
D15B3
* Found in:
o 1988-1989\ Honda Civic EX
o 1988-1995 Honda Civic Shuttle GL
o 1992-1995 Honda Civic LX (NZ model)
o 1988-1991 Honda Civic LX (NZ model)
+ Displacement : 1,493 cc (91.1 cu in)
+ Bore and Stroke : 75 mm × 84.5 mm (3.0 in × 3.3 in)
+ Compression : 9.9:1
+ Power : 95 hp (71 kW) @ 6000 rpm
+ Valvetrain : SOHC (4 valves per cylinder)
+ Cam Gear : 38 tooth
+ Fuel Control : Carburetor
I think building the d12 would be a waste of money

threes no replacement for displacement....
I would look into swapping in a larger d-sereis motor or you'll always be double-downshifting to climb hills
dual carb zc would do you quite nicely.

can we use carbs for the d15b? because the only problem is the cost of adding the efi thingy with it. this guy is selling me the engine for about $650 with installation, but since my ef is carb, i would have to add about $150 more . do we have a work around with this?

If it's non vtec then it'll be easier.
Thanks guys for the help! one last thing. my ef is only 4 speed, is that ok? changing to a 5 speed is going to add up to the costs and im on a tight budget as it is....
